Artist: Hybrasil Title: Madman EP
Concept: Hybrasil is a live techno artist based in Berlin, known for a meticulous approach to sound, rooted in years of engineering work at studios like Temple Lane and Grouse Lodge. His performances are a raw and immersive exploration of analog synthesis, shaped by a deep connection to the architecture of rhythm and texture. With releases on labels such as CLR, Rekids, Uncage and Awesome Soundwave, his work sits at the intersection of functionality and experimentation, crafted for dance floors, yet rich in sonic detail.
Over the years, he has quietly built a reputation among the underground’s most respected selectors, earning support from the likes of Richie Hawtin, Radio Slave, Dave Clarke, and Laurent Garnier. Hybrasil has taken his live set to some of techno’s most iconic spaces, including Panorama Bar, DC10, Sisyphos, and Fabrik Madrid. His label, Hybrasil Music, and projects like ‘Drones from the Island’ reflect a continuing evolution—part installation, part performance, always rooted in the language of machines.
The hugely effective 'Madman' kicks off with a muscular groove that blends punchy kicks with time-keeping hi-hats. It's linear and loopy with menacing vocal stabs peeling off the beats and all-consuming bass. After that irresistible wedge of body music comes the cerebral twist of 'The Rush' with tightly coiled and trippy synth loops that hark back to 90s minimalism in style as more unsettling vocals add intriguing detail. 'More Wax' has a seriously heavyweight swing as the drums rock back and forth and the bass rattles walls. The most deft synth sounds peel off the beats of this marching monster. Closer 'Caturix' is the most fulsome sound of the lot with hammering hits and urgent kicks, warped synth lines and muffled radio transmissions all making for pure dance floor angst.
Hybrasil's 'Madman EP' is out now Mind Medizin.
